First year Academy Athlete Sarah Langsbury has had an outstanding 2019/2020 Athletics season. In 2019 Sarah was selected to represent New Zealand in the Open Women’s 100m hurdles at the Pacific Games held in Samoa, this was Sarah’s first time competing internationally at the open grade level which meant she had to step up to the open women’s hurdle height and distance. Sarah most commonly competes in the 80m hurdle event at a lower hurdle height, so with the added pressure of the higher hurdle height and an extra 20m Sarah placed fourth in the open women’s event which is an outstanding result in a open grade event. In December 2019 Sarah placed 2nd at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Championships in the 100m hurdles and obtained a personal best of 14.40 sec, competing in multiple events Sarah also placed 7th in the 300m hurdles and 9th in the long jump. A very talented multi event-er as well as hurdler, Sarah placed 2nd in the heptathlon at the U18 National Combined Events Championships in Christchurch held in February.
Quote from Sarah ” I have already taken away a lot from the Academy, incorporating skills and techniques into my daily life”.
